ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses that the most important specifications to which every technical system can be subjected, whether it is a sensor, a part, a component or a complete system. It presents avoid or reduce certain errors, a discussion of some improving measures. System specifications characterize the system’s behaviour under predefined conditions and are usually provided by the manufacturer. For every system electromagnetic compatibility specifications are also of increasing importance. The inaccuracy of a measuring system is strongly dependent on the way the information is displayed, because measuring ultimately means displaying a quantity on a certain symbolic scale. Ultimately, the sensitivity can be made extremely high by electronic means, theoretically without any limit. In processes often hundreds of measurements have to be made in a very short time. Environmental conditions describe the specified circumstances to which the system is subjected during manufacturing. Three different types of error can be distinguished: systematic errors, conditional errors and stochastic errors.
