ABSTRACT

It is entirely fitting that the organizers of this Festschrift included a session that recognizes Gus Craik’s contributions to the neurosciences, but there is also a touch of irony in that decision. A desire to unravel the mysteries of the human brain was not always a priority within Gus’s intellectual pursuits. Indeed, he would probably be the first to admit that, throughout most of his career, he wasn’t too concerned if semantic encoding went on in the left lobe of the frontal cortex or anywhere else in the brain. But when Gus’s interests eventually turned to neuropsychology, as they did in the late 1980s, the creative juices began to flow in predictable fashion. The four chapters in this section reflect Gus’s contributions in this area and, importantly, how he and his thinking influenced the work of others.
