ABSTRACT

In the UK there are different forms of train driving, which include both in-cab signalling and lineside signalling. Drivers across the UK rail system use varying levels of information from both inside and outside the cab. However, the majority of research has only focused on driver behaviour with conventional train driving. Conventional driving typically relies on coloured light signals, and occasionally on semaphore signals or radio token blocks. It can also include train protection technology such as the automatic warning system (AWS) and train protection and warning system (TPWS).
