ABSTRACT

London Underground (LU) is committed to addressing Human Factors (HF) challenges in a pragmatic manner to deliver useable and reliable systems into operational service across the network. The current network upgrades are well underway and will deliver new trains, signalling, and infrastructure including track, station and depot enhancements which interact to supply capacity enhancement demanded by the increase in the number of passengers. System performance is emphasised in this paper as being determined by the performance of the human component. If system development activities take account of users’ abilities and limitations, the system will perform as an integrated whole, as it is intended.
