ABSTRACT

Previous chapters have concentrated on Romans, either within or beyond the imperial borders, but frontier zones also included those dwelling outside the Empire. When the Romans established a border, it had effects on those living across it. This chapter looks at some aspects of the frontier in the east, south and north from the point of view of those beyond the Roman Empire.
