ABSTRACT

The centrality of white men in white supremacist discourse is epitomized by an illustration regularly published in War. This chapter reports on the growing sentiment among white males that they are under attack, bearing the brunt of social and cultural change in the United States. White men are portrayed as racial warriors within white supremacist discourse, both offensively, against particular enemies, and defensively, as protectors of the white race from outside attacks. The primary figures are African Americans, constructed as possessors of 'Blackness', an essence depicted as the antithesis of 'whiteness'; and Jews, possessors of a 'Jewish' essence, also set out in opposition to 'whiteness'. The fear of Black sexuality intensifies when it is combined with homophobia. This is evident in articles which claim to report on the experiences of white men who are incarcerated. The white supremacist strategy for highlighting white women's sexual attractiveness is to regularly contrast it with the alleged lesser attractiveness of Black women.
