ABSTRACT
This Chapter describes a new competence based management qualification for teachers initiated by the College of Preceptors in 1991 and trialled in Norfolk and Kent. The college is a professional association and learned society for teachers which has provided professional qualifications since it received its Royal Charter in 1849. This recent development accords with its long-standing tradition of open access and emphasis on effective performance in the workplace.
