ABSTRACT

The history of the development of teacher appraisal can be traced back to the early 1970s or even earlier. This history is well documented elsewhere but, as the remit of this book is to look forward rather than backward, we shall not dwell on historical perspectives. However, for those joining appraisal for the first time, or those who may have forgotten what it is really about, we will familiarise you with the origins of the process.
