ABSTRACT

Curriculum innovation, implementation and control, assessment structures and the impact of computer technology are all playing a major part in changing the nature of schools and therefore the education of children, but 'nothing yet looks like killing off the method tried and tested long before the millennium began: a teacher standing before a group of pupils and imparting wisdom by word of mouth' (The Economist, 1999). How can schools recruit the best teachers for their context, and is there something different about teachers who need to be recruited for international education and for international schools?
