ABSTRACT

In previous chapters I described the brain's various sensory and motor systems. In this chapter I will group them together into three coordinating systems, according to the types of computations they perform. The three systems are the spatial system, the symbolic system, and the purposive system. I will indicate how the systems interact and relate them to the brain's architecture. I will describe innate capabilities of the brain, and finally, I will suggest how, because of these innate capabilities, a child is able to learn.
