ABSTRACT

So far, we have touched on topics from linguistics dealing with the structure of language from the standpoint of grammars (in chapter 20) and morphology in chapters 31 and 32. Another area of linguistics has to do with studying characteristics of the letters used in a language. As we discuss shortly, there are questions that can be asked in this regard from many different fields of study. But first, let's look at some simple experiments that we can perform.
