ABSTRACT

Auditing is a complex, ill-structured practical problem that is both exploratory and analytical. The auditor collects and analyzes evidence regarding an organization's operations, eventually arriving at an overall judgment. The auditor must come to a judgment about whether the company's annual and quarterly financial statements accurately portray its financial condition. If the evidence is provided by the company, various means of verifying its authenticity may be employed. Evidence is analyzed and statements of the company's financial condition are evaluated in light of the analysis.
