ABSTRACT
In chapter 1, vowels are defined by the IPA using the three dimensions of height, frontness, and rounding. Each of these three parameters is presented in detail from the perspective of the physical dimensions (the auditory attributes). It is helpful to refer to Fig. 3.1 while reading the narrative explanations of each of the vowels.
