ABSTRACT
Conference on Behavioral Neurodynamics. Set against the philosophical view of "eliminative
materialism", the purpose of this conference was to facilitate communication among investigators
who approach the study of consciousness and conscious phenomena from a variety of analytical
levels. Although consciousness appears on the current landscape much as a bandwagon, returned
from long lost travails, the subtitle of this conference, "Is the Brain Too Important To Be Left To
assumption is that an understanding of brain and mind will only result from the unified and
collaborative knowledge of physical as well as biological and behavioral sciences. We are not
likely to do the job independently of one another. Therefore we must, as Schr6dinger (1967) admits" ... at the risk of making fools of ourselves", attempt to synthesize the facts and theories of
our individual disciplines toward the goal of understanding the workings of brains that link them
to our experience of consciousness.
