ABSTRACT

The development of emotion as a research discipline has undergone a remarkable resurgence in the last decade. This 4th Appalachian Conference on Behavioral Neurodynamics seeks to explore how the motivation for learning represents self-organization rather than self-gratification. In this spirit, we will consider how learning and memory are integrated with the brain’s motivational processes. We believe that an understanding of the semantic organization of the human mind cannot be achieved without a basic understanding of the individualized, emotional content of semantics at both cognitive and neural levels. Such an understanding may be an important step in characterizing human personality.
