ABSTRACT

Undergraduate instructors of psychology differ in their areas of expertise, but we share at least two general pedagogical concerns. First, we encourage students to read and think critically about psychological issues (e.g., Chamberlain & Burrough, 1985). We focus predominantly on issues presented in the scholarly literature and strive to promote students' understanding that research involves more than just going to the library. Second, we want students to become skilled at demonstrating their knowledge. To this end, we provide them with various opportunities to present what they have learned to others (e.g., science fairs, class presentations, and exams).
