ABSTRACT

The police cruiser was making a routine pass through the backstreets of New York City. "Hey, stop the car," Frank told his partner. Jerry, a much younger officer than his seasoned partner, immediately brought the cruiser to a halt. Frank climbed out of the car and aimed his flashlight toward the rain-soaked cardboard box. The light fell on a bedraggled looking man. "We've got us a drunk," Frank called to Jerry. Jerry joined his partner in the alley and moved the police cruiser spotlight so that its beam fell on the man they had found. Something about the expression on the man's face suggested to Jerry that he was more than intoxicated. He looked kind of wild.
