ABSTRACT

Between the years 1975 and 1983, literally hundreds of studies have been published on pain. Our task has been to select those most pertinent to the topics treated in this book. We have chosen representative laboratory and clinical investigations of pain relief through hypnotic procedures, and have given some attention to advances in the physiological understanding of pain and to the effectiveness of hypnosis as compared with other methods of treatment.
