ABSTRACT

In the earlier chapter addressing misconceptions about hypnosis, one of the misconceptions discussed briefly concerned the potential harm to a client undergoing treatment through hypnosis. In that discussion, I made the point that hypnosis is a tool, not a therapy, and that it could be applied skillfully or it could be misused and potentially harm the client. This places full responsibility on the clinician to exercise caution and sensitivity in the use of hypnotic techniques.
