ABSTRACT

This book, as well as this professional series, was prompted by the new clinical style of conducting psychotherapy imposed by the existence of managed care organizations (MCOs). This new reality has emerged as the enemy for many mental health services providers, to the point that is has become fashionable to blast MCOs when chitchatting with colleagues. Headlines in publications for professionals that sound ominous, such as “Economic terrorism prevents...resisting MCOs” (Bradman, 1994), and comments likening MCOs to dictatorships destroying the field of psychotherapy do not contribute to an objective view of what's happening.
