ABSTRACT

Etiology and Contributing Psychological Factors In the absence of any physical cause for globus, several psychological factors have been reported to be responsible for the conditions. Several studies have concluded that patients with globus present with a higher degree of psychopathology as compared with other medical patients. Most professionals view the condition as being similar to Somatization Disorder (Chapter 1), although some consider it a form of a Conversion Disorder (Chapter 2). There is a general consensus, however, that patients with globus do not have histrionic personality traits.
