ABSTRACT

STEP 2 WEIGHT IN LINE Modigliani started with a very simple sketch,

before making quick brush strokes over the

lines. Most of his lines appear to be dragged

across the surface, resulting in a jagged

stroke that is full of energy-there are very

few sharp lines. These gestural strokes

would become the basis for how negative

and positive shapes played off each other, so

here we will create a jagged brush to emulate

Modigliani’s line work.
