Beanstalks, Folktales, and Good Old Marriage
Beanstalks that reach above the clouds, and ogres with fortunes in golden eggs exist only in folktales. But in both folktales and real life we find relationships. We find tyrannical husbands and sabotaging wives; we know demanding wives and indulgent husbands like the fisherman and his wife; we meet frightened Titty Mouse and Tatty Mouse, and bold couples like the Jumblies setting off with high hopes. In varying degrees and combinations we all recognize these ancient marriages in our towns and in our own homes. Can attitudes and behaviors ever really change?
