ABSTRACT

In many professional settings, decisions are carried out by expert teams rather than individuals. Teams must often accomplish difficult, complex, and even dangerous tasks where to succeed they must engage in thorough yet rapid decision making processes. That is the case in the medical arena, where decisions for patient diagnosis or care often require the input of different specialists and the collaboration of nurse and physician teams. In the same way, decisions during military or firefighting operations that are riddled with risk, time pressure, and changing environments are the product of a team effort.
