ABSTRACT
Microscopic systems such as molecules, atoms and nuclei have a number of physical properties. The most commonly measured quantities are energy and angular momentum, or spin. A complicated system like a nucleus, with many mutually interacting particles,' may have hundreds of such states, each a different dynamical arrangement of the components, which must be identified and classified to gain insight into the strucrure of the nucleus.
