ABSTRACT

Sperry and Mosak in Chapter 11 explore the " Personality Disorders" in general, and Sperry and Ansbacher in Chapter 12 explore the " Narcissistic Personality Disorder." Dreikurs ( 1967) noted that psychodynamically, psychotics discard common sense; neurotics acknowledge it but look for excuses in order not to follow it. what he referred to as character disorders might now be known as personality disorders. He noted that individuals with character disorders never fully developed common sense. for them , their private logic was fused intimately with a distorted common sense, so that the distinction between the two was difficult to make. When confronted with a challenge, these people responded with a "Yes-But I'll do it my way" approach. In other words, they felt that their way of solving the challenges of life was the way to solve it. Sperry presents an in-depth, biopsychosocial exploration of the DSM-IY personality disorders, along with an integrative analysis of the Narcissistic Personality Disorder based upon the works of Adler and Kohut.
