If you find yourself not trusting the feedback of the chosen person(s), continue with the exercises in this chapter. The discrepancy may be the result of body-image distortion. Do not fret! Most people have some form of body-image distortion. However, people with eating disorders or disordered eating tend to have greater distortion. It is not the goal of this chapter to convince you to see yourself more accurately. You will reach this goal as you achieve greater physical and emotional health. Instead, by the time you have completed this chapter, we hope you will understand the concept of body-image distortion so you can minimize the degree to which it interferes with your recovery.
