ABSTRACT

Abuse, whether physical, sexual, or emotional, is about power and control. The perpetrator wields power and control at the expense of his or her victims. Its impact is tremendous; for after any bruises or scars fade, the emotional scars last and, if not addressed, grow and fester. Although physical abuse leaves more apparent marks, it is quite common for the victim to find ways to disguise the cause of the bruises, scrapes, or cuts by telling stories of being accident-prone or bruising easily.
