ABSTRACT
This book is not a science textbook. Most students of sustainability will take courses in the sciences such as ecology, biology, chemistry, and physics, where the workings of the world can be studied in detail. This chapter simply introduces how the sustainable world works and picks out some key themes that appear in more specialized science books and courses.
