ABSTRACT

Pulverized coal (PC) combustion based on several decades of practice is the major technology used in coal-fired power plants worldwide as explained earlier.

PC combustion technology, during this period, continued to undergo technological improvements that have increased efficiency and reduced emissions. The technologies preferred for today’s conditions may not be most favorable in future, if incompatible for further modifications. For example, Carbon dioxide capture and sequestration in coal-based power generation is an important emerging option for controlling carbon dioxide emissions; and this additional feature would add further complexity to the generating technology that is opted today.
