ABSTRACT

The activities described in this chapter are aimed at Year 2 children, but the project could easily be carried out with any age group in Key Stages 1 and 2. By Year 2 the children should be familiar with CD-ROM-based talking stories of various types and should be able to recall their favourites. To refresh their memories it might be useful to demonstrate a talking story. If the story has been carefully selected, then the amount of typing which is required of each pair should be minimal. By emulating a story and creating their own online version, the children will be engaging deeply with the structure, style and format of a picture book. Making decisions about characters and settings will enable them to appreciate the way that authors organise their work.
