ABSTRACT

The information and communication technology (ICT) modelling will take place alongside 3D modelling with construction kits and materials. The software will also be used to communicate ‘final’ designs. Designing an environment uses ICT to provide children with an interactive two-dimensional representation of the three-dimensional materials that they are using to construct playground models. If children are going to develop their spatial awareness and design effectively, then their drawing and practical making opportunities need to proceed side by side. New components may need to be added to the initial template so that representations of materials that the children have suggested are included. The teacher can participate in the children’s designs by making suggestions or moving components and encouraging the children to evaluate alternatives and use ICT to explore what happens in real situations.
