This paper shows the situation as at 1 April 1970. The Institute assumes full responsibility for the facts contained in the paper. The co-operation of the respective governments has been sought, and in many cases obtained. Where necessary, figures have been estimated, as stated. The Institute owes a considerable debt to a number of its own consultants who have assisted in compiling and checking material.

National Currency figures have been converted into dollars, at the prevailing rate, as reported to the International Monetary Fund. GNP has been calculated in terms of market prices.

The term ‘combat aircraft’ is used to cover only the following categories – bombers, fighter-bombers, interceptors, reconnaissance, light-strike, counter-insurgency and armed trainer aircraft.
