ABSTRACT
The minimal requirements for a theory relating brain dysfunction to psychopathology are that such a theory should adequately characterize the physiological disorder, and explain both its origin and its functional significance. In this paper, I have attempted to construct the outlines of a theory of serotonergic dysfunction in depression that meets these criteria.
