ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This study presents a methodology for spatial and temporal dynamic patterns of drought risk analysis to corn production in the northwest of Liaoning Province based on AVHRR data and GIS from the viewpoints of climatology, geography and disaster science. The diagnostic model of drought risk for corn under the background of meteorological drought was established by using NDVI and meteorological data. It is shown that, from temporal variations of corn drought risk, precipitation anomaly percentage at typical drought period in typical drought years is not inversely proportional to drought risk of corn inversely completely due to effect of water in soil; from spatial distribution characteristics of drought, drought risk of corn has a large differences between the north and south due to differences in latitude, altitude and local abilities of drought prevention and resistance of different places drought control ability. The results obtained in this study can provide evolution of drought and the decision-making basis of disaster prevention and mitigation for government management and farmers.
