ABSTRACT

The problems associated with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection transcend the medical diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The research team of the Biopsychosocial AIDS Project at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine has adopted the biopsychosocial model for researching HIV spectrum disorders. Consequently, it is our premise that HIV will impact not only the biomedical sphere, but also will affect significantly the psychological and social realities of any person touched by HIV, whether he or she is a person with HIV infection, a family member or friend of such a person, a caregiver, or a member of the public at large.
