ABSTRACT

The genesis of this book can be traced to the editors’ earlier investigations of the nature of family support services in child welfare (Cameron, Holmberg, & Rothery, 1983; Cameron & Rothery, 1985; Rothery & Cameron, 1985). This research described the narrow concept of helping articulated by many child welfare professionals and the restricted range of program models favored in child welfare organizations. Somewhat paradoxically, these investigations identified a wider variety of promising methods of helping germane to child welfare.
