ABSTRACT

In relation to health, the fit and subsequent strength of the attachment bond have possible physical and emotional consequences. Secure attachment is proported to be related to emotional health in infants, Fox suggests, because it reflects the trust relationship with the mother. The infant's physical health may also be affected by the ability of the mother to respond to health-related behaviors in the infant, such as cries of pain. In addition, because attachment is a reflection of trust, the subsequent formation of autonomy in the child and adolescent may be affected by the security of the attachment bond.
