ABSTRACT
Groundwater is not only a hidden element of the hydrosphere and an invisible component in the terrestrial segment of the global water cycle, which can be included in a macro-hydrological picture as presented in the previous chapter. It is also an essential and dynamic constituent of the lithosphere, and hence of geoscientific interest and addressed by the discipline of hydrogeology.
