ABSTRACT

Introduction In this chapter we look at the anatomical and physiological systems that form the basis of protection (the integumentary system), support (the skeletal system) and movement (the muscular system). The slant will be towards anatomy, rather than physiology. In a later chapter we will look at systems from more of a physiological perspective (Chapter 3) and further into the book we will take an even closer look at aspects of the muscular system, namely skeletal muscle structure and function (Chapter 4).
