ABSTRACT

Watson, Liebmann, and Watson (l976a) found that the NREM PIP frequencies of five acute psychotic patients were much elevated during the

first 2 weeks of their hospital admission, but were significantly reduced in frequency during the final weeks of their hospitalization during partial remission. The night-to-night amount of NREM PIP activity was significantly correlated with repeated independent ratings on the New Haven Schizophrenia Index. Rechtschaffen, Litchman, Pivik, and Bliwise (1978), however, did not find a significant increase in NREM PIP activity in groups of psychotic patients recorded just at the beginning of their hospitalization, compared with a normal control group.
