ABSTRACT

There have been relatively few studies utilizing the MCMI with an eating disordered population. Chandarana, Holliday, Conlon, and DeSlippe (1988), looking at pre-and post-gastric stapling surgery patients, found that the postsurgery group had lower mean scores on the Schizoid and Schizotypal scales. Both groups were above the normal range on the Anxiety scale. Identifying an eating disordered group within the university population, Lundholm (1989) utilized the MCMI to determine alcohol abuse within this group. Alcohol abusers were noted to be dissatisfied with themselves whereas infrequent users of alcohol were generally dissatisfied with others; these conclusions were based on Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI; Garner & Olmsted, 1984) scores. The MCMI scores were only employed in identifying level of alcohol use, not for purposes of personality description.
