ABSTRACT

The diagnostic congruence between the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI; Millon, 1983) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III; American Psychiatric Association. 1980) has generated considerable controversy since the inception of the MCMI. Several debates have centered around how consonant Millon’s taxonomy (Millon, 1981) is with the DSM-III taxonomy. Widiger, Williams, Spitzer and Frances (1985) have argued that the congruence is only partial for several of the MCMI scales. They also noted that there had been little empirical research to validate the congruence between the MCMI and DSM-III.
