ABSTRACT

Be positive about seeking the views of others and value their contributions. Employ open-ended questions, those which encourage an elaborated, rather than a brief yes or no answer. ‘What are the main resort facilities of Penang?’ is an openended question and more useful than ‘Do you like Penang?’ ‘What do you think about green issues/global warming/transport in New Delhi?’ are good questions, but ‘What do you think. . .’ is a bit general. Use phrases like ‘What are the advantages of global warming?’ or ‘Do you consider the Internet’s global, unrestricted basis will influence the actions and attitudes of individuals?’ or ‘What do you value about the lake and its environs as a recreation resource for local people?’
