ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to present a framework for conceptualizing anger-related personality characteristics that have been implicated in the etiology and the course of cardiovascular disorders. This task is approached by first presenting an overview of essential concepts, and then by attempting to organize those concepts within a single model. Relevant research findings are presented where they serve to illustrate key points. The main goals are to describe the elements of a unified theoretical perspective where that is possible, to highlight issues that appear in particular need of conceptual and empirical analysis, and to discuss implications for research methodology.
