In chapter 1, a theoretical model on the organization of the self-system was proposed. In the subsequent chapters, empirical findings on several aspects of the development of this organization were reported. The purpose of the present chapter is to integrate all that h&s come before. Following a summary of the model, the findings are discussed more explicitly in the framework of the assumptions and considerations in chapter 1. Based on this discussion, two general factors explaining the mechanisms that were evident are considered. Subsequently, some remaining as well as new questions are discussed and suggestions for future studies are presented based on the present research and recent literature. The chapter ends with a specification of the model.
