Overview and Interpretation of Rajan's Performance
The studies reported in this book provide additional information on the characteristics of expert memory. Our data show the retrieval strategies of an expert memorist performing several tasks with digit strings. In this chapter, we summarize the important points that we think emerged from these data. Then we discuss how Raj an's performance fits with Ericsson's theory of skilled memory. Finally. we question whether Rajan's ability should be viewed as resulting from great talent or extensive practice.
