ABSTRACT

David Spratt and Philip Sutton (2008a, 2008b) propelled themselves into prominence in the Australian climate movement by releasing Climate Code Red, a monograph initially in loose spiral binding by Friends of the Earth Australia in 2008 with the subtitle ‘The Case for a Sustainability Emergency’ later republished in an expanded book by Scribe Publishing in Melbourne with the subtitle ‘The Case for Emergency Action.’ Spratt and Sutton are organic intellectuals, not university academics, and were major figures in the grassroots climate movement before Climate Code Red and have become even more significant since the publication of the book.
