ABSTRACT

Gaming as provided by mobile phone platforms is absorbing the growth that the new generation [of consoles] should have delivered.

7.1 Introduction Multiplayer experiences are becoming more popular on mobile devices. In 2009, Zynga released Words with Friends ( www.wordswithfriends.com ). It is a Scrabble-like game available on most platforms in which players take turns spelling out words. The game sends a message to a player when it is their turn. The game is rarely played in real-time, with days and sometimes months going by before the next player plays. Draw Something by OMGPop later acquired by Zynga, is another popular social mobile game that works in a similar manner, where drawings are passed between players over the Internet and the player has to guess what the other player has drawn. It’s like mobile Pictionary. Of course there are many more multiplayer games of these types available on mobile platforms.
