Adapting-Size Neural Network for Character Recognition on X-ray Films

In this paper, we propose a novel learning method for category learning. The proposed method not only adjusts weights and biases but optimizes the number of hidden units. We applied this method to character recognition on X-ray films and achieved a recognition rate of 99.4% on a 1,200-element testing set.
